MOVING AND PACKING TIPS
Although every move is a little different, and requires different packing methods and supplies, here are a few tips from FIRST WAY MOVERS .
For any large appliance, please check your owner manual for proper handling instructions prior to moving.
Moving companies / HHG carriers are legally forbidden from transporting hazardous materials, flammables, ammunition, or explosives.
Be sure to pack all essentials and important documents with you. Have clean sets of clothes, shower kit, as well as basic cleaning supplies.
Clear out all compartments, closets, basements, attics, and hidden areas to ensure you don’t leave anything behind.
Always pack snacks, drinks, and other needed supplies for the trip.
Be sure to disconnect/relocate all services, such as subscriptions, change of address forms, cable, internet, or phone services, and don’t wait for the last minute. It can take then easily up to 2 weeks to get your old service disconnected and your new place reconnected, so contact all companies a month in advance at least.
Do not reuse old damaged boxes, and always pack the box up properly to the rim to be sure proper support for the box and preventing it from folding inwards and possibly damage the valuables in it. Also never interlock the bottom or top, but use several layers of tape. Also try to avoid over packing large boxes with heavy items, but use small boxes or crates instead.
One of the most important thing perhaps is to set a side a small, accessible box with the priceless valuables and irreplaceable light items of the household. For example, passports, photo albums and family videos, medical records, permits, insurance forms, etc. That box should always remain close and accessible to you.
